The 24th season of American Idol came to an exciting close on Monday, May 11, wrapping up a finale packed with powerhouse performances, emotional moments, and appearances from some of the biggest names in music.
Three finalists took center stage heading into the night: Jordan McCullough, Hannah Harper, and Keyla Richardson. Each brought their own style and energy to the finale, making for a competitive and memorable conclusion to the season.
A Finale Filled with Music Icons
Beyond the finalists, the episode turned into a full-scale celebration of music, featuring guest performances from an impressive lineup of artists. The stage welcomed Brad Paisley, Blues Traveler, Cameron Whitcomb, Clay Aiken, En Vogue, Gin Blossoms, Jason Mraz, Lee Ann Womack, Nelly, Shinedown, Tori Kelly, and Mötley Crüe, among others.
The mix of genres—from country and pop to rock and R&B—helped make the finale feel like a festival rather than just a competition closing night.
Luke Bryan Brings New Music and a Classic Cover
Judge Luke Bryan took the spotlight with a performance of his new single, “Fish Hunt Golf Drink,” giving fans a taste of his latest work.
He later returned to the stage for a duet with finalist Julián Kalel, delivering a heartfelt rendition of Dwight Yoakam’s classic “A Thousand Miles from Nowhere.” The collaboration highlighted Kalel’s emotional range while showcasing Bryan’s signature country charm.
Carrie Underwood and Mötley Crüe Steal the Show
One of the most talked-about moments of the night came when Carrie Underwood joined forces with rock legends Mötley Crüe for a high-energy medley of two of the band’s biggest hits: “Home Sweet Home” (1985) and “Kickstart My Heart” (1989).
Vince Neil opened “Home Sweet Home,” setting the tone before Underwood stepped in, dressed in leather shorts and matching chaps, trading vocals with the band’s frontman. Her powerful delivery blended seamlessly with the emotional tone of the song.
As the performance transitioned into “Kickstart My Heart,” the energy exploded. Drummer Tommy Lee led the shift with a thunderous intro that had the entire audience on their feet—including the judges.
A Familiar Song for Carrie Underwood
For Carrie Underwood, “Home Sweet Home” is more than just a guest performance moment. She previously performed the song on American Idol in 2009 when she returned as a Season 4 winner to the show that launched her career.
Earlier this season, she even revisited the song again during auditions alongside a contestant, proving its lasting significance in her connection to the show.
A Fitting End to a Standout Season
With emotional performances, nostalgic throwbacks, and electrifying collaborations, the Season 24 finale of American Idol delivered everything fans could have hoped for. It wasn’t just a competition conclusion—it was a celebration of music across generations and genres.
