Transforming an old ambulance into a cozy, stylish home, known as the “Glambo,” is a testament to one woman’s creativity and determination.

Driven by a desire for freedom and a break from the constraints of a conventional lifestyle, she embarked on this unique project. The choice of an ambulance as the base for her home was unconventional but practical, as these vehicles are often decommissioned after a decade of service. Her 2006 model had seen its fair share of action, even serving as a plumber’s truck before its transformation.

The renovation journey was challenging. Stripping the vehicle down took three months, during which her father provided invaluable support. The entire project, including the ambulance and renovations, cost between $20,000 and $25,000.

From the outside, the Glambo is impressive, built on a 2006 Chevy Kodiak C4500 chassis, measuring 24 feet in length and eight feet in width. Despite its size and robust 6.6-liter Duramax engine, she managed to create a warm and inviting living space inside.

The exterior compartments house plumbing and electrical equipment, maximizing the interior space. She equipped her home with lithium batteries and a powerful solar setup, ensuring it is energy-efficient and sustainable. The mini windows, once ambulance lights, add a charming touch.

Inside, the ambulance is a blend of comfort and personality. The living area features a snug couch, a twin bed, and smart storage solutions. Personal touches are evident throughout, from a cherished tree painting to a quirky block project. The kitchen combines functionality and style, with a metallic sink and hexagon-themed tiles adding a modern flair.

The bathroom was a non-negotiable part of the design. It features a chic space with a black accent wall and waterproof tiles, providing a luxurious feel.

Her journey of transforming the ambulance into a home is a powerful example of how passion and ingenuity can turn an unconventional idea into a beautiful reality. The Glambo not only provides her with a unique living space but also embodies her spirit of adventure and independence.
