The Black Crowes sparked controversy during their May 31 show in Tampa when frontman Chris Robinson responded to a crowd chanting “USA! USA!” after an Uncle Sam-themed image appeared on the venue screens.
Before launching into “She Talks to Angels,” Robinson fired back, “Thanks for the geography lesson,” before adding, “I don’t know what you have to be so proud of right now.” As some audience members booed and reportedly began leaving, he doubled down, saying, “Some of us are not afraid. And we most assuredly are not fucking ignorant.”
The moment comes just months after Robinson insisted he’s “not interested in politics,” while also expressing concern about the current state of the world in a recent interview.
