Willie Nelson to miss first tour dates due to “doctor’s orders”

The 91-year-old country icon was set to take the stage at Ameris Bank Amphitheatre in Alpharetta on Friday, June 21, alongside Bob Dylan, Robert Plant, and other artists, but plans shifted when it was announced he would be taking time to rest.

Nelson’s team shared an update on Instagram, revealing that he was “not feeling well” and had been advised to rest for four days. While the news sparked concern among fans, the statement emphasized that he is expected to make a quick recovery and rejoin the tour the following week.

During his brief absence, Nelson’s son Lukas Nelson will step in, performing a special set of his father’s songs with additional guest musicians.

Earlier this year, Nelson released The Border, his 152nd album, and recently collaborated with Orville Peck on Stampede: Vol. 1, offering a modern take on “Cowboys Are Frequently, Secretly Fond of Each Other.”

The Outlaw Music Festival Tour runs through September, with Nelson expected to return to the stage on June 26 or June 28, health permitting.
