Ella Langley Opens Up About How One Song Changed Her Life — and the Dark Side of Social Media

2024 turned out to be a dream year for Ella Langley. Her duet with Riley Green, “You Look Like You Love Me,” didn’t just go viral — it completely changed her life. The song hit No. 1 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart, went platinum for over a million sales, and even won Musical Event of the Year at the CMA Awards.

But as Ella recently shared, the song that made her a household name almost didn’t happen.

“I Thought No One Would Get It”

Speaking at the Country Radio Seminar (CRS) in Nashville, Ella admitted she had no idea the song would blow up the way it did.

“I remember walking out of the writing session thinking, ‘No one’s going to understand this song,’” she laughed. “I thought I’d just play it around a bonfire, and that would be it.”

The track, which she co-wrote with Riley Green and Aaron Raitiere, was a risk from the start. It features Ella’s unique sing-talking delivery — something that raised a few eyebrows at first.

“Some people thought it was too different,” she said. “But for me, it felt honest. Country music is about telling real stories, and I wanted to do that in my own way.”

Taking Risks and Seeing It Pay Off

Even though Ella describes herself as a “pessimist by nature,” she says the success of the song still shocks her.

“I literally thought it would crash and burn,” she admitted. “So when it did so well, I was in pure shock.”

She credits her fans — especially on TikTok — for giving the song its wings.

“The fans took ownership of it,” she said. “I’d open my TikTok and hear myself everywhere — dogs, horses, everyone was singing it. It was wild!”

The “Dark Side” of Social Media

Of course, viral fame comes with its downsides. Ella was honest about how overwhelming social media can be.

“There’s a dark side to it,” she said. “People think they know your life from what they see online. My dad will call and ask, ‘Is this real?’ and I have to say, ‘No, Dad, don’t believe everything you read!’”

Even though the negativity stings sometimes, Ella tries to stay grounded.

“I grew up in a small town, so you can’t really say much to hurt my feelings,” she said with a laugh. “It’s just part of the job. Some people have a bad boss — I have weird comments. I just grab my Kindle and read a book.”

Inspiring the Next Generation

Now, as Ella continues to rise in the country scene, she’s aware that she’s becoming a role model for young women — a title she’s still getting used to.

“It feels surreal when someone says they want to be like me,” she said. “I still look up to people like Miranda Lambert and Lainey Wilson — they’ve been incredible mentors and friends.”

For Ella, success isn’t just about charts or awards. It’s about connection.

“When I play ‘You Look Like You Love Me’ at shows, the crowd sings it back,” she said. “The girls have their little group moments, and the guys are smiling because they get it. That’s what it’s all about — seeing people connect to something you wrote. That’s the real reward.”

Ella Langley’s journey proves that sometimes, the song you least expect can be the one that changes everything — as long as you stay true to yourself.
