The music world is mourning the loss of Brad Arnold, lead singer and founding member of 3 Doors Down, who passed away on Saturday, February 7, following a courageous battle with kidney cancer. He was 47.
News of Arnold’s passing prompted an outpouring of tributes from artists across the country and rock communities, many of whom reflected on his talent, faith, and kindness. Jason Aldean was among the first to share his condolences, writing on Instagram, “This is truly heartbreaking. We will all miss you and the talents you shared with the world. Rest easy, buddy.”
Artists including Jay DeMarcus and Joe Don Rooney of Rascal Flatts, Big Kenny Alphin, John Rich, Bobby Bones, Josh Ross, Austin Snell, Brandon Lake, and James Otto also honored Arnold with heartfelt messages. Having lived in Middle Tennessee, Arnold developed close friendships with many artists during his time in and around Nashville.
Big Kenny remembered him as “a one-of-a-kind beautiful voice and a God-loving, kind-hearted man,” while John Rich called him “a talented musician whose music will live on forever.” Jay DeMarcus reflected on their songwriting sessions, saying there “wasn’t a nicer human being,” and Joe Don Rooney described Arnold as “a gift to the world.”
Bobby Bones recalled Arnold’s generosity and warmth, noting that he once joined his band for a St. Jude charity show. Others highlighted Arnold’s faith, with Brandon Lake praising him for sharing the gospel even in his final days.
Later that afternoon, 3 Doors Down confirmed the news in an official statement.
“With heavy hearts, we share the news that Brad Arnold, founder, lead singer, and songwriter of 3 Doors Down, passed away on Saturday, February 7th,” the band shared. “With his beloved wife Jennifer and his family by his side, he passed away peacefully in his sleep after his courageous battle with cancer.”
The band honored Arnold’s lasting musical legacy, crediting him with helping shape the sound of mainstream rock in the early 2000s. As a founding member, vocalist, and original drummer, Arnold blended post-grunge influences with emotionally honest songwriting that resonated deeply with fans. He famously wrote the band’s breakout hit “Kryptonite” at just 15 years old, a song that became a defining anthem of a generation.

“His music created moments of connection, joy, faith, and shared experience that will live on long after the stages he performed on,” the statement continued.
3 Doors Down thanked fans for their continued support and asked for privacy for Arnold’s family during this difficult time.
