Christopher Rich Credits Reba McEntire for His Return to Acting After Stroke
Christopher Rich is opening up about his recovery journey—and the friend who helped bring him back into the spotlight. The 72-year-old actor revealed that Reba McEntire played a major role in encouraging him to return to acting following the stroke he suffered in 2018.
Speaking at the Paley Honors Gala in Beverly Hills, Rich admitted that leaving the house once felt overwhelming. But everything changed when McEntire invited him to guest star on Happy’s Place. “She dragged me back,” he shared, adding that the experience helped him reconnect with both acting and the world outside his home.
A Meaningful Comeback
Rich appeared on the NBC sitcom in February as Maverick, a tattoo artist who, like him, had survived a stroke. The role marked his first on-screen performance since his health scare and reunited him with former Reba co-stars McEntire and Melissa Peterman.
He said their support during his recovery was constant. They visited him in the hospital, sent gifts, and kept his spirits up during a long and difficult healing process. “It’s been a long journey,” Rich explained, comparing his progress to slowly climbing a marble wall—small steps that required patience and determination.
Looking Forward
Now, Rich says his health is steadily improving. He’s moving more freely, has largely completed physical therapy, and is focused on getting out and engaging with life again. He also credits his wife, Eva Halina Rich, for her unwavering support.
Attending the gala to celebrate McEntire—who received the Paley Honors Award—was another milestone. For Rich, the night wasn’t just about honoring a friend; it was a reminder of how far he’s come and the people who helped him get there.
