The search for the next American Idol continued Monday night as Season 24 rolled into its second episode, bringing a fresh wave of talented hopefuls to the stage. Judges Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie, and Carrie Underwood returned to their iconic seats, ready to find voices that could rise above the rest and earn a coveted Golden Ticket to Hollywood.
The night was packed with emotion, jaw-dropping vocals, and surprise moments that reminded viewers why American Idol remains one of TV’s most exciting competitions. From nerves to show-stopping performances, the contestants proved that Idol University is no easy journey.
Makiyah Shines
The episode kicked off with an unforgettable audition from Makiyah, a 24-year-old assistant branch manager from Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Singing has always been central to her life, from performing around town to sharing music with her family in church every Sunday.
Makiyah delivered a powerhouse rendition of Jennifer Hudson’s “Love You I Do,” hitting every note with precision and soaring through the song’s emotional climax. Carrie Underwood couldn’t contain her excitement, letting out a scream as Makiyah nailed the performance.
“You didn’t miss a note,” Carrie praised. “So strong, so in control—you are meant to be here.”
Luke Bryan added, “Since you walked in, my cheeks have been smiling. You light up the room,” while Lionel Richie declared, “We pray for the standout who will set the standard. It’s you.
