Music legends Bruce Springsteen, U2’s Bono and The Edge, and iconic singer Stevie Wonder are among the star-studded lineup set to celebrate the grand opening of the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago.
The event, organized by the Obama Foundation, will also feature appearances from Christina Aguilera, Common, Eddie Vedder, Jennifer Hudson, John Legend, Marc Anthony, Marsai Martin, The Roots, and Tems, bringing together an impressive mix of artists, activists, and cultural figures.
Announcing the ceremony on Instagram, the Obama Foundation stated: “We are bringing together some of today’s most prominent voices and global icons for the Obama Presidential Center Grand Opening Ceremony.”
The Center’s official website echoes the celebratory tone with the tagline: “Hope has a home, and it’s time to open the doors.” The message highlights the project’s focus on civic engagement, leadership, and community-building as the long-awaited center prepares to welcome visitors.
Springsteen’s participation comes as little surprise. Over the past several years, “The Boss” has become one of President Donald Trump’s most vocal critics, repeatedly condemning the president and his administration. Springsteen has previously described Trump as “corrupt, incompetent, and treasonous,” while Trump has responded with personal attacks, famously referring to the rock icon as a “dried out ‘prune’ of a rocker.”
The ongoing public feud has also drawn support from fellow musicians. In 2024, Bono made his position clear when asked about the dispute, responding: “There’s only one Boss in America.”
Eddie Vedder also came to Springsteen’s defense during a Pearl Jam concert in Pittsburgh, criticizing Trump’s reaction to the singer’s comments.
“The response had nothing to do with the issues,” Vedder told the audience. “All that we heard were personal attacks and threats that nobody else should try to use their microphones or voice in public, or they’ll be shut down. Part of free speech is open discussion.”
For those unable to attend the opening ceremony in person, organizers have announced an official watch party featuring a large-screen broadcast at Midway Plaisance Park near the Obama Presidential Center, giving Chicago residents an opportunity to join the celebration.
With a lineup featuring some of the biggest names in music, entertainment, and public life, the Obama Presidential Center Grand Opening is shaping up to be one of the year’s most high-profile cultural events.
