New details have emerged regarding the health of legendary singer Bonnie Tyler after she was hospitalized in Portugal following emergency intestinal surgery.
Last week, it was confirmed that the “Total Eclipse of the Heart” star underwent urgent surgery in the Algarve, where she owns a home, after reportedly feeling unwell. Following the procedure, doctors placed Tyler into an induced coma in an effort to support her recovery.
According to Portuguese outlet Correio de Manhã, complications allegedly occurred when doctors attempted to wake the singer from the coma on May 8, with reports claiming she suffered a cardiac arrest during the process. The publication also stated that the surgery was linked to a ruptured appendix that required emergency removal.
In a fresh update shared with the BBC, Tyler’s spokesperson revealed that the singer remains in hospital in Faro and is currently in a serious but stable condition.
“As of this morning, Bonnie remains seriously ill but stable in hospital in Faro, however, her doctors are still positive that she will make a full recovery,” the spokesperson said.
They added that any further updates regarding Tyler’s condition would be shared publicly when available.
Reports suggest Tyler first became ill in March while returning to the United Kingdom for a concert at the O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire. Although initial medical tests reportedly showed no concerns, her condition later worsened after returning to Portugal, where she began experiencing severe abdominal pain.
After first visiting a private hospital, Tyler was transferred to Faro for emergency treatment.
Speaking on ITV’s Good Morning Britain, Tyler’s close friend Liberto Mealha shared that the singer is currently receiving intensive care treatment.
“The doctors are positive with the situation, but so far, it’s not that good,” he said.
Fans around the world continue to send messages of support as hopes remain high for the iconic singer’s full recovery.
