Christopher Rich is opening up about his recovery journey and the friend who helped him step back into the spotlight: Reba McEntire.
Speaking at the Paley Honors Gala in Beverly Hills on November 10, the 72-year-old actor reflected on life after the stroke he suffered in 2018. Rich shared that during his recovery he became hesitant to appear in public and struggled with confidence. That changed when McEntire encouraged him to join her NBC sitcom Happy’s Place.
“It used to be so embarrassing to come out,” Rich said, explaining that accepting the role helped him reconnect with acting and with people. “Ever since Reba dragged me back, I’ve sort of re-entered the world again.”

Rich made a guest appearance on Happy’s Place in February, playing Maverick, a tattoo artist who—like Rich himself—had experienced a stroke. The role carried personal meaning and marked an important step in his return to the industry.
The actor expressed deep gratitude for McEntire’s support, calling her a lifelong friend who gave him the push he needed at the right time. For Rich, the experience wasn’t just about a TV role—it was about regaining confidence, independence, and a sense of normalcy after a major health challenge.
