The Voice is spinning back into action for another headline-making season — and Season 29 is shaping up to be one of the most dramatic reinventions yet.
The Emmy-winning singing competition returns with a bold new structure, surprise appearances, and a competitive edge designed to raise the stakes for both Coaches and Artists. “You think you know The Voice? Think again,” returning Coach Adam Levine teased in a July 2025 Instagram video.

NBC describes Season 29 as a “landmark season,” promising faster gameplay, heightened rivalry, and format twists that push the competition into uncharted territory. While the auditions may still be blind, viewers are getting a clear look at what makes this season different.
When does The Voice Season 29 premiere?
Season 29 debuts with a two-hour premiere on February 23. The launch week continues with additional two-hour episodes airing February 25 and February 26, giving fans an extended introduction to the revamped format.

Who are the Coaches this season?
For the first time in the show’s history, The Voice will feature only three Coaches — and they’re all champions of the franchise. Adam Levine, Kelly Clarkson, and John Legend return to the iconic red chairs, forming the only Coach panel made up entirely of past Voice winners. Clarkson last appeared in Season 23, while Levine and Legend most recently coached during Season 27.

What’s new about the Season 29 format?
Officially titled The Voice: Battle of Champions, the season introduces sweeping changes. Each Coach will lead a team of 10 Artists, and the competition will unfold across four rounds.
The Blind Auditions feature a new “Triple Turn Competition,” where Coaches compete to secure the most three-chair turns. The Coach who wins earns a strategic advantage in the next round. During the Battles, that advantage becomes a “Super Steal,” allowing one Coach to override another’s steal attempt.
The Knockouts introduce an in-season All-Star competition, with each Coach bringing back two standout Artists from past seasons. The season then narrows to a Top 9 semifinal and a Top 4 finale, where a new voting group — made up of superfans and former Voice Artists — will help decide the winner.
Which Artists are returning for the All-Star competition?
Returning performers include:
-
Team Kelly: Girl Named Tom (Season 21), Jake Hoot (Season 17)
-
Team John: Maelyn Jarmon (Season 16), Renzo (Season 27)
-
Team Adam: Javier Colon (Season 1), Jordan Smith (Season 9)
According to Deadline, the Coach with the most All-Star sing-off wins will earn a second finalist in the finale. The special episode will also welcome back original Coach CeeLo Green, who returns to judge the All-Star Showdowns.
