American Idol Quietly Erases Hollywood Week And Hands Power To Social Media In Season 24

Season 29 of The Voice is nearly here, and NBC is promising one of the boldest shake-ups in the show’s history. Officially titled The Voice: Battle of Champions, the upcoming season brings a high-stakes twist fans have never seen before — a three-Coach lineup made up entirely of franchise legends.

For the first time ever, Kelly Clarkson, Adam Levine, and John Legend will share the red chairs, setting the stage for a powerhouse showdown between some of The Voice’s most celebrated veterans. The new season premieres Monday, February 23, 2026, at 9/8c on NBC, kicking off with the Blind Auditions. Episodes will air weekly on Mondays and stream the next day on Peacock.

Along with the star-studded Coach lineup, Season 29 introduces major format changes designed to raise the competitive stakes. New elements include a “Triple Turn Competition,” where Coaches battle for the most three-chair turns, and a “Super Steal” rule during the Battle Rounds that could dramatically alter team dynamics. The season also marks the return of CeeLo Green — this time in a brand-new role.

John Legend recently shared why the show continues to energize him after so many seasons. “I love being surrounded by so much talent,” he said. “It’s inspiring. I learn from coaching, from interacting with these artists. Being around that hunger and excitement is renewing.”

Legend also appreciates the balance the show brings to his life. “I live in Los Angeles and have four kids,” he explained. “It’s nice to work close to home — take my kids to school, then go to work. The inspiration I get from these artists never gets old.”

With legendary Coaches, fresh rules, and renewed competitive fire, The Voice: Battle of Champions is shaping up to be a season unlike any other.

ABC and Fremantle, which produces the show in association with Sony Pictures Television’s 19 Entertainment, are still working out the logistics of social media voting. For the time being, text and phone voting aren’t going anywhere, executive producer Megan Michaels Wolflick told Deadline.
