Jack Osbourne has shared an emotional and deeply personal story about the moment he learned his father, rock legend Ozzy Osbourne, had passed away at the age of 76.
Ozzy died on July 22, just weeks after performing what would be his final show, Back to the Beginning at Villa Park. For Jack, that concert was the last time he saw his father alive before returning home to Los Angeles.
In a new YouTube video, Jack fought back tears as he recalled waking up to a knock at his door in the early hours of the morning.
“It was about 3:45 a.m.,” Jack explained. “Someone who’s worked with my family for nearly 30 years was at the door, and when I saw it was him, I knew something bad had happened.”

That morning, Jack received the devastating news that his father had passed away around 10 a.m. UK time.
Despite the heartbreak, Jack found comfort in his last memories with Ozzy. “After the show, I stayed in England for a week with my kids. We spent time at the family house. Dad was happy, in a great mood… looking back now, I’m so grateful for that time.”
Remembering the Prince of Darkness
Official records listed Ozzy’s causes of death as cardiac arrest, heart attack, coronary artery disease, and complications from Parkinson’s disease, which he had battled since 2019.
Ozzy was laid to rest on July 30 during a private ceremony at his Buckinghamshire home, surrounded by family and fellow rock icons.
At the funeral, Jack shared a quote from actor Keanu Reeves that struck a chord with him:
“I don’t know what happens when you die, but what I do know is the people who love you will miss you the most.”
For Jack, Ozzy wasn’t just a father. He was also a colleague, a roommate for a time, and above all, a friend. “He was funny, weird, awkward, clumsy, insightful — he was just… Dad. And I miss him.”
A Complicated but Beautiful Legacy
In the 16-minute video, Jack spoke about Ozzy’s complexity — a larger-than-life performer who also had quiet, deeply human sides. He promised to share more stories when the time feels right, but for now, expressed gratitude to fans for their overwhelming love and support.
“We weren’t alone,” Jack said. “And knowing how loved he was meant everything.”
He ended the video with words that beautifully sum up Ozzy’s legacy:
“He’s not gone — he’s exploding through the universe. His life doesn’t end here. His legacy will keep shining.”
