Music history met modern pop royalty when legendary Beatles icon Paul McCartney reportedly delivered a memorable performance at the wedding reception of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce on July 3 at New York City’s famed Madison Square Garden.
According to reports, McCartney performed the Beatles’ classic chart-topper I Want to Hold Your Hand, adding a dose of Beatlemania to the star-studded celebration. The reception was said to have followed an intimate ceremony, with Swift’s mother, Andrea Swift, welcoming guests into a reception hall where a stage had been prepared for special performances.
Another music legend, Stevie Nicks, also reportedly took the stage. Nicks has long shared a close friendship with Swift and has often spoken publicly about her admiration for the pop superstar.
The appearance by McCartney was especially meaningful given the mutual respect that has developed between the two artists over the years. In 2020, Swift and McCartney famously appeared together on the cover of Rolling Stone, where they discussed songwriting, creativity, and the challenges of life at the highest levels of fame.
Their admiration for one another has remained evident ever since. Earlier this year, Swift publicly praised McCartney after he announced his album The Boys of Dungeon Lane. Sharing news of the project on social media, she described him as an “eternally exceptional artist” and said his work continues to inspire her.
Just days before the wedding celebration, McCartney spoke about Swift during an interview with BBC Sounds. When asked whether he had advice for someone navigating the immense level of global fame that both artists have experienced, he suggested Swift was doing just fine on her own.
“You can see the similarities in the level of worldwide fame,” McCartney said, comparing Swift’s popularity to the phenomenon the Beatles experienced during their peak years. However, he added with a laugh that he didn’t believe Swift needed guidance.
Despite that, McCartney said he would gladly offer advice if she ever asked.
“I’m like the older brother to that generation,” he joked before correcting himself. “Or maybe more like the grandad.”
The Beatles legend also spoke warmly about several younger artists he has met through gatherings hosted by his wife, Nancy Shevell, and daughter, Stella McCartney. Among those he mentioned were Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo, and Sabrina Carpenter.
McCartney praised the younger generation of performers, calling them talented, grounded, and genuinely impressive artists.
“I like their voices,” he said. “If they ever wanted advice, I’d be happy to give it. But honestly, I don’t think they need it.”
The wedding celebration, highlighted by performances from two music legends, reportedly became a rare moment where multiple generations of music history came together under one roof—uniting the enduring legacy of the Beatles with one of the defining pop stars of the modern era.
